Shirley Marie Maxwell

1925-2018

Shirley Marie Maxwell

On January 2, 2018 our mother, Shirley Marie Maxwell of Kentville passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Mom was born in Woodstock, NB to Clayton and Eva (Hawkins) Killam. At the age of 17 she went to Halifax to study at Dalhousie School of Pharmacy- embarking on a career she was so very proud of. She returned to Woodstock, and married Ronald Jones Maxwell. They moved several times within New Brunswick and later settled in Kentville in 1957 where they raised their family. Mom worked in several pharmacies in Kentville but spent most of her career at the Nova Scotia Sanatorium, BFM and later the Valley Regional Hospitals. Mom was an avid bridge player, enjoying that game as well as the Friday Lunch Group at Rosie’s with "the girls". Mom was an active member of the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, a member of the Glooscap Curling Club and Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club. After retirement Mom enjoyed the cottage, knitting, the Toronto Blue Jays, baking for others, travel with our father and any time spent with the girls. Left to remember Mom are her children, Barbara (David) Farmer, Bob (Joanne) Maxwell, Allan (Jane) Maxwell; grandchildren, Clayton, Neal (Laura), Greg (Justine),Tim, Jenna (Ryan) and Donnie; great grandchildren, Alexis, Izzy and Waylon; sister, Jacqueline McGaughey in Woodstock; special friend Nat James; several nieces and nephews. Her great grandchildren will hear how she loved her family, was a loyal friend and lived her life with fierce determination and on her own terms. Mom was predeceased by our father Ronald in 1993 as well her sisters, Ann, Barbara and Nancy; sister in law, Marie Rawlings. We are so appreciative of the care Mom received at the Valley Regional. Our thanks to the staff at Grand View Manor in Berwick for their exceptional care and making her feel like she was at home. As well, all of those at Kings Riverside Court for providing  Mom (and us) with the security of knowing she was safe and surrounded by people who cared. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. The funeral service and reception will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Ivan Norton officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to Grand View Manor.
