Ruth Loretta Elderkin

Ruth Loretta (Clarke) Elderkin – 88, formerly of Wolfville, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, after a lengthy illness. She was born on December 12, 1929 in Saint John, NB and moved to Wolfville in 1952, where she and her new husband raised a family. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick "Fred" J. Elderkin; two sisters, Lillian and Eleanor; her mother, Mrs. Josephine Clarke, (Saint John, NB) and father, Fred Clarke. Those surviving include her children, Marilyn Alice Salle, Barriere, BC; Cheryl Ruth Field, Barriere, BC; Mark Frederick Elderkin, Wolfville; four grandchildren, Garrett, Jeremy, Carrie and Kyle, Barriere, BC; and five great-grandchildren.  Ruth was an accomplished singer and a member of the Wolfville Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She was a woman of grace, whose faith was the wellspring for her kindness, generosity, compassion, warmth and caring for her family, friends and all those who knew her. Ruth’s family would like to thank the ‘angels’ that were her care givers, nurses and other staff at the Evergreen Home who treated her with the same dignity, love and compassion they would give to a member of their own family. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will occur on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Donations in Ruth’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.
