Verna B. Smith

Verna B. Smith – 85, formerly of Centreville, Kings County, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 in Shannex-Blomidon Court, Greenwich, Kings County. Born in South Alton, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Clinton and Emeline (Russell) Aalders. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Kentville. She enjoyed gardening, took great pride in her home and had a great love for her family. She had been employed with Sears Canada Inc. for 32 years, retiring in 1999. She was also secretary/treasurer for Poehl’s Auto Recyclers. She is survived by her husband, David A. "Ross" Smith, Shannex-Blomidon Court; two daughters, Sherry Poehl-Fisher (Blaine Fisher), Lakelands; Janet Poehl (Tom Morton), Hall’s Harbour; a son, Dana Poehl, Steam Mill; two step-sons, David (Annette) Smith, Middleton and Daryll (Lori) Smith, Kitchener, ON; a brother, Laurie (Joan) Aalders, South Alton; grandchildren, Colin (Terry) Mosher, Crysta Mosher (Chad Cummings), David and Bobby Thompson; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Rhonda Poehl; a sister, Onabel Doyle; four brothers, Foster, Oren, Bernard and Eugene Aalders. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service and reception at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 in St. James Anglican Church, Kentville. Reverend Doctor John Roddam will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to St. James Anglican Church, the Lung Association or the Arthritis Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
