Donna Mary Bickerton

Donna Mary Bickerton – 68, of Sheffield Mills, Kings County, passed away on Saturday, March 10th, 2018 at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville following a courageous battle with Glioblastoma. Born in Kentville on June 18, 1949, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Mary (Patterson) McNamara, Kentville. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Bonnie Kinsman and brother-in-law, Paul Kinsman. She is survived by husband, John Bickerton, Sheffield Mills; daughters, Heather Fraser, Halifax, and Cheryl Bickerton, Centreville; special friend, Bonnie Rooney, Sheffield Mills; grandchildren, Mitchell Fraser, South Korea; Evan Fraser (Kaija Cashin-Brown), Centreville; Allyssia Bickerton (Dan McCarthy), Halifax; Kristen Bickerton, Centreville; Shane Bickerton, Antigonish and Taylor Bickerton, Ottawa; brother, Daniel McNamara (Mary Lou), Centreville; half-sister, Misty Banyard, Ottawa; step-sister, Corrina Kinsman-Rafuse, Kentville; several nieces and nephews. She attended Cornwallis District High School in Canning, Kings Regional Vocational School, Kentville and when her children were grown she attended NSCC, Kentville and received a diploma (Honours with distinction) in Horticulture. She also completed accounting courses at NSCC. Donna retired as Administrative Assistant, MacLeod Lorway, Kentville, and had been previously employed with Efamol Research, Perry Rand Ltd., W.C. Rooney Transportation Ltd., and Bickerton’s Clothing. Donna much enjoyed her membership in TOPS #NS0378 Kentville and served as leader for several years. She often spoke of the friendship, fellowship, kindness and determination shown amongst the TOPS members. She also enjoyed travel, camping, sightseeing, music, reading and her furry family. Donna had a passion for wolves and dragon flies but also enjoyed the hummingbirds feeding at her window. More than anything else, she dearly loved her grandchildren and endeavoured to be involved in as many of their activities as possible. She was proud of all their accomplishments and strong determination to succeed when faced with life’s challenges. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville and there will be no visitation or service by request. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Special thank you to Dr. Janet MacNaughton, Wolfville, Dr. Mary McNeil and Dr Liam Mulroy, Halifax; medical staff at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville; EHS Paramedics, Paulette Bennett, Palliative Care nurse, and the VON support staff who assisted Donna and her family at home. Special thanks also to Bonnie Rooney for providing constant, personal care and companionship throughout Donna’s illness. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Red Cross or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
