Helen Isabelle Hiltz

Helen Isabelle (Newcombe) Hiltz (Sept. 28, 1920-April 17, 2018) - age 97 years young, surrounded, with love from her family, Helen passed peacefully into her saviours arms. Born in the family home in Port Williams, she was the daughter of Charles and Beatrice (Weaver) Newcombe and is the last surviving member of her family. Helen was employed for many years by Port Williams Agencies and also helped run the family hardware store in Port Williams. Helen never had idle hands and volunteered with many different organizations including the St. John's Anglican Church Ladies Auxiliary, Palliative Care, Salvation Army's Red Kettle project and enjoyed knitting bears and caps for the preemie infants. She led a very active life and loved music, baking, needle work, cycling, walking but most of all loved skating. Her last trip around the ice surface was on her 90th birthday. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Balfour; sister, Margaret and brother, Howard. Left to mourn her passing are her chosen children, Peter (Janet), Sunken Lake; Murray, Halifax and Margaret, Moncton, NB; her beloved grandchildren, Nicole (Todd), Coldbrook; Travis (Sydney), Halifax; Ryan (Jelina), Kentville; Cory, Kingston; Claudia (Scott), Halifax; Ryan (Naomi), Halifax; Corey and Megan, Halifax; Josh and Kyle, NB and Daniel, ON. Helen was also blessed with nine great grandchildren, and will be missed by several nieces and nephews. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of the Grand View Manor for their love and compassionate care for Helen. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, at Helens request. The funeral service and reception will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A private family burial will take place in St. John’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Church Street, Port Williams. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
