Donald Richard King
Donald Richard King – 50, of Toronto, Ontario, passed away on December 29, 2017 in Bridgepoint Health Centre, Toronto, after a courageous three year battle with lung cancer. Born in Kentville on January 2, 1967, Don was the son of Ernest and Edith (Richards) King, New Minas, formerly of Wolfville. The family moved to Wolfville when Don was five years old and he received all of his education there. Don was a graduate of Horton District High School and graduated from Acadia University in 1989 with his Bachelor of Business Administration. His first year after graduation was spent as an English Assistant in Corsica. Upon returning to Canada, he chose the transportation industry working until June of 2017 as Director of Business Analysis with TForce Integrated Solutions, a career he enjoyed immensely. In his younger years, Don belonged to the Wolfville Cubs and Scouts and enjoyed playing minor hockey and soccer. Later he became a long distance runner and completed the Boston Marathon on two occasions. He also ran many other marathons in Nova Scotia and Ontario. He also curled, belonging to clubs both in Halifax and Toronto. He enjoyed traveling especially in Europe. Don is survived by his parents; his nieces, Kathleen (Nick) King, Shearwater; Kimber King, Halifax; special aunt, Linda Lockhart, New Minas and aunts, Minnie Crossman and Donna Marr, both of Kentville, special cousin, Tawnia Sanford Ammar (Zied) of Kiev, Ukraine. Don was predeceased by his only brother, Duane (2005), his grandparents, Curtis and Helen King, Borden Richards and Edna (Richards) Lohnes. A celebration of life was held in Toronto on January 6, 2018. A second celebration of life was held in Halifax on January 20, 2018. Over the years, Don and his family came to trust and appreciate the excellent care he received from the professionals at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Also many thanks to Don’s friends and co-workers for providing transportation and assistance when needed. Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral service, by request. A visitation and reception will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2018 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Private family interment will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made in his honour to the Lung Cancer Research Fund, which supports lung cancer research and the dedicated work of Dr. Frances Shepherd. Any donations may be made at the White Family Funeral Home. We will miss Don’s humour, smile, friendship and love. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
