Donald Ray "Don" Taggart

Chief Petty Officer, 1^st Class, Donald Ray "Don" Taggart - 78, of Coldbrook, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 17, 2018 at home.  Born in Ottawa, Ontario, he was a son of the late Cecil and Mary Janet Rose "Mae" (Ray) Taggart. Don was a 25-year veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy, retiring as Chief Petty Officer, 1^st Class, in 1981. Don continued to work in the supply field until he retired in 1995 at which time he moved to Coldbrook. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville. Within the legion, Don held many positions, retiring as Service Officer. In his younger years, Don was an avid golf player. Don enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and he especially enjoyed his time with his great grand children. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley (Burgoyne); three daughters, Linda Gillespie, Coldbrook; Janet Taggart (Darlene Crittenden), Beaver Bank; Angela (Jim) Archibald, Beaver Bank; six grandchildren, Donnie Gillespie, Kelly Gillespie, Corrie (Meghan) Demedeiros, Stephanie (Lionel) Ouedraogo, Michael Archibald (Laurel Duhme) and Mathew Archibald; two great-grandchildren, Jaydon MacDonald and Dawson Burhoe; nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by son in law Donald Gillespie Sr., two sisters, Lois and Joan; two brothers, Bill and Terry. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of ones choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
