Margaret Louise "Marg" Murphy

Margaret Louise "Marg" Murphy (Pierce) – 93, of Evangeline Beach, Grand Pre, crossed over to the "other side" and joined her beloved husband Ed on January 14, 2019 surrounded by her family and in her own bed at home.  Marg was born on April 22, 1925 and lived a long life for which we are very thankful.  She was a daughter of the late Herbert and Antonia (Marchinkowski) Pierce. Marg was the last of her generation having been predeceased by her parents and all of her eight siblings, Mary, Joseph, John, Lewis, Marshall, Donald, Fred and Douglas. Marg and Ed had five children and traveled across Canada, children in tow, in their early years with postings through Ed’s career in the Armed Forces.  She is survived by her children, Judy Murphy, Moncton, NB; Karen Purves (Randy) Evangeline Beach, NS; Heather Whalen (Bob) Fredericton, NB; Stephen Murphy (Barb) Ladner, BC and Shelley Stobbs (Robert) Geary, NB; grandchildren, Lyndsay, Hayley, Ashley, Jennifer, Jolene, Janell, Ruth, Judie, Angee, Lucas, Matthew and Daniel; great-grandchildren; Jaryd, Gavin, Charlie, Hayden, Chloe, Alex, Olivia, Mark, Nathan, Paige, Jenika, Timothy, Rachel, Leah, Joy, Salomeja, Aiva, Autumn, Bronson, Jaycee, Logan, William, Madison, Olivier, Noah; great-great-granddaughter, Ember, who she enjoyed meeting in her last days, and several nieces and nephews. Marg made her career in hairdressing, teaching, World Book and being a wife and mother.  After Marg and Ed moved to Nova Scotia upon their retirement, Marg became a professional volunteer.  They found their way to Stoney Plain Baptist Church in Lockhartville where she was a faithful choir member for many years.  She learned to rug hook and "hooked" her way through her retirement commonly known as "The Happy Hooker" to many.  Marg was involved with the Order of the Eastern Star, the Randall House Museum in Wolfville, IODE and the Women’s Institute. Playing bridge with friends was always a highlight in her week. One of Marg’s many hobbies was keeping a beautiful garden. Many people enjoyed her famous seafood chowder and cookies at the beach and the grandchildren always enjoyed their grandmother’s "nannie bread". Mom was known to many in the Wolfville area (who didn’t actually "know" her) as the little lady with the dog in her pouch.  Missy was first, followed by Molly, both had their turns singing in the choir with her.  Marg passed on her love for animals to her family.  Another personality of Marg’s was when she dressed up and acted as a "bag lady" and visited different events.  Mom loved to have fun and enjoyed playing her mouth organ without her teeth; you might not have known who it was!  Growing old is not for the "faint of heart" was a phrase that we often used as mom grew older and weaker.  She has been a trooper through the journey of the last months as dementia took away the mother we knew. The family would like to thank the many friends who came alongside Randy and Karen and helped in so many ways as they cared for Marg in the last five years.  Mom gained so many additional children in that time.  If you called Marg "Mama", thank you, we know you grew to love her.  Thank you to Sharon Foster who helped care for dad and then mom and became family; faithful caregivers, Penny Mailman and Cyndi Southhall; Dr. Ramon Salazar, Continuing Care and the VON Home Care workers/schedulers/nursing team all of whom made it possible to keep mom home to the very end! A very special thank you to granddaughter, Jennifer Bickford, for being the "nurse in charge" over the last days as we held vigil with Mom. We are all very thankful for a life lived well!  "It is Well With My Soul." Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The Celebration of Life, followed by a reception, will take place at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2019 in the Wolfville Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Scott Kindred-Barnes and Rev. Gail Whalen-Dunn officiating. Mom loved flowers! Interment of both Marg and Ed will take place at a later date in the Lower Horton Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses (Kings Branch) or Wolfville Baptist Church to the elevator fund.
