Verna Evelyn Harvey

1927-2019

Verna Evelyn Harvey

Verna Evelyn Harvey, 91, of New Minas, Nova Scotia passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Hantsport, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Vera (Levy) MacInnis. Although her life ended on Monday, in many ways the quality of her life ended on January 4, 1972 when her husband Ted passed away suddenly at the age of 46, a death from which Verna never recovered. After his death in Ottawa, Ontario, Verna moved to Kentville, Nova Scotia to be close to her family. Verna would continue to be a homemaker and mother in Kentville.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, particularly her sisters with whom she was very close. She is survived by sister Frena Harvie, Kentville; daughter, Heather Harvey-Stymiest (Charles), Miramichi, New Brunswick; grandchildren, Liam Seth Harvey-Crowell, Hannah Kathleen Crowell (Jacob) and Samuel David Ottis Crowell (Michael), all of Fredericton, New Brunswick; sisters-in-law, Joyce McInnis and Beverley (Ben) Hendsbee; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Verna was predeceased by her husband Ottis Frederick (Ted) Harvey; sister, Alicia Dauphinee; brothers, Ronald, Chesley and Keith MacInnis; her brothers-in-law, Harley Harvie and Burton Dauphinee and sisters-in-law, Olla MacInnis, June Ettinger and Marguerite Ettinger. At Verna’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. There will be a private family burial service in the Spring. Memorial donations in Verna’s memory may be directed to the Palliative Care Unit of the Valley Regional Hospital to thank them for the exceptional care provided to my mother. Special thanks to the Oncology Unit in Halifax as well as to Dr. Robert Mullan of Kentville.  As her daughter, I am especially grateful for the unwavering dedication and care to my mother shown by Carol Dale and Richard and Shelley Dauphinee. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
