1941-2019

Ernest Leslie "Ernie" Weatherbee

Ernest Leslie "Ernie" Weatherbee – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ernie, at the age of 78. He passed away peacefully, at his home in New Minas, on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer. Born in Wolfville, he was a son of the late Gilbert and Clara (Jessup) Weatherbee. Ernie was a kind and generous friend to many in his 78 years.  He loved country music, especially in his younger years playing guitar and singing with his buddies.  He also loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening. Ernie appreciated watching old movies, westerns being his favorite. A hockey enthusiast, he enjoyed watching the Pittsburg Penguins and Team Canada, but most of all, he loved watching his grandson, Sam on the ice. His favorite hobby was giving and receiving hugs from his grandchildren. Ernie was a member of Local No. 56 Plumbers & Pipefitters. Ernie was a loving husband to Carol, his wife of 54 years; a loving father to his son, Doug and daughter, Michele Beaton; and a kind and caring father-in-law to Kate McKenna and Bruce Beaton. Ernie’s greatest joys were his grandchildren, Layla and Sam. He is also survived by sisters, Florence, Marilyn and Marina; brothers, Calvin and Willie; nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Leeman; brothers, Albert, Earl and Louie. The family would like to thank Dr. Jim Seaman, Dr. Mike Sinclair, Dr. Lori Burgess and all of the palliative care team for their care and compassion; with a special thank you to Dianna Hutt. Cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville where the funeral service, followed by reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2019. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the SPCA – Kings County. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
