George Edward Channing
George Edward Channing – 69, of Canning, Kings County, passed away very suddenly on the morning of Thursday, February 28, 2019 doing what he loved to do, being with his friends, laughing and teasing each other. Born in Wolfville, he was the son of the late Owen and Helen (McGarvie) Channing. George lost his father at a very young age, so it didn’t take him long to realize the importance of family and work. He started out working on a small farm and later worked as a carpenter. He was then employed for a number of years with G.K. Morse Trucking, where he was well-known as the "Limestone Kid". He then worked as a truck driver for Maple Leaf Poultry, where he was known as "Chicken George". Wanting to expand his skills, George then drove long-haul for David Brown Trucking. He was then employed with Dave’s Fruit and Vegetable Market, where he enjoyed blowing his horn, making sure the girls were up. Loving his family and friends, George was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and good friend. He enjoyed playing cards and darts and going 4-wheeling. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Janice (Taylor); a son, Owen Channing, Centreville; three grandsons, Ethan, Rayden and Noah; a sister, Heather (Maynard) Oickle, New Minas; a niece, Lisa Edwards (Mike Johnson), Coldbrook; several cousins and extended family; his beloved panda bear that he loved very much. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2019, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. Burial will take place in the Pereaux Cemetery, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.
