Marie Lenore Marchand
Marie Lenore Marchand - age 82, of Berwick, passed away March 12, 2019 at home surrounded by her family after a lengthy battle with kidney disease and cancer. The youngest of 10, Marie was born in Arichat, Cape Breton, and was the daughter of the late Alice (Sampson) and William E. Madden. Marie married Joe who served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. They lived in France, Ottawa, Greenwood, and Barrie while raising their family. They subsequently spent many years in Geilenkirchen, Germany, and then returned to Barrie upon retirement. They moved to Berwick in 2014. Fiercely independent, with an extraordinary love for her family, Marie was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never lost her wanderlust, although kidney disease restricted her travels in later years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, dancing, reading, planning home renovations, cards, swimming and travelling. Marie was a faithful and devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church. She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years Joseph "Clem" Marchand; children, Angela Fraser (Vern); Laura Morse (Brian); Michael Marchand (Lonni); Janice Archibald (Stuart) and David Marchand (Kim); brother, Fred Madden (Denny); sisters-in-law, Magdalaena, Marjorie, Marie and Yvonne Madden, Marie Fraser, Susan Marchand; brothers-in-law, Peter, Leo (Raymonde) and many nieces and nephews. Loving Grandma to grandchildren, Meghan Banks (Kevin), David Fulton (Sara), Nick (Carrie) and Chris Fraser, Sarah Woodworth (Jeff), Ian Morse, Jane Beaton (Kyle), Mark Morse (Melanie), Lauren Davidson (Chad), Gregory and Ann Folker, Ian Archibald, Jacob, Jordan, and Jenna Marchand; great-grandchildren, Luke, Leah, Emily, Hailey, Heidi, and Makai. Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by siblings Connie, Art, Rose, Andrew, Dave, Edward, Greg and Anne. Marie was always involved in volunteer work including Friendly Neighbours in Greenwood, Nova Scotia, the Salvation Army in Germany, and various church organizations at St. Mary’s Parish in Barrie. She also worked for several years as a palliative care volunteer at the Barrie Royal Victoria Hospital. Marie and family wish to thank the staff of the Dialysis Unit at the Western Kings Memorial Health Centre in Berwick for their kindness and care. Marie and family also wish to express their sincere appreciation to community members who went to great extent in providing support to family members, allowing them to spend valuable time together. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A funeral mass and reception will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019 at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, Berwick. Burial will be held at a later date in Arichat which always held a special place in her heart. In lieu of flowers Marie’s wishes are that donations be made to Covenant House, Toronto.
