David Walter Long

David Walter Long - 79, The Hound Dog Man of Black River has been reunited with his beautiful Manitoba Rose. On March 21, 2019, by the brilliant light of the Equinox Moon, David took the hand of his beautiful Margie as she led him home. Born on October 20, 1939, David Walter Long was the youngest and devoted son of the late David and Jennie (Nowlan) Long of Black River. David had a strong faith in God.  He and Margaret were members of the former Black River Baptist Church and the White Rock Baptist Church giving from their hearts to help others. David devoted himself to his mother, Jennie until her passing. He did work for the Department of Highways for six years. David was a very articulate poet and story writer and has left a legacy of wonderful stories to share. From taking bribes from his sisters beaus to make himself scarce and doing an Irish jig on the dancing rock with his Uncle Leander. David was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by special nieces, Arlene (Long) Munroe and Zelda (McPhail) Stevenson; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Plett); sisters, Madge McPhail, Ruth Babcock, Grace Allen and Arlene in infancy and brother, James "Jim". Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 25, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. Burial will take place in the Black RiverCemetery. Donations to Diabetes Canada or the Forest Hill Baptist Church.
