Sylvia June Rogers

1937-2019

Sylvia June Rogers

We are shocked and saddened to announce the passing of our mother, Sylvia, age 81, of Northville, on Monday, April 15, 2019, a short sixteen days after our father, Paul. Born in Wolfville, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Kathleen (Aalders) Burgher. Mom spent many of her formative years growing up on Burgher Hill in Kentville, and continued to enjoy watching the areas children toboggan and enjoying "her hill". She attended Provincial Normal College receiving her teaching certificate before teaching full-time in Yarmouth and then as a substitute teacher at Kings County Academy as well as Aldershot Elementary. An avid homemaker, Sylvia prided herself and very much enjoyed turning every holiday gathering into a major production, cooking more than enough food to feed all of Centreville, which we, as the recipients of her passion, very much appreciated. This also gave her an opportunity to use one of her many sets of fine china. Mom enjoyed baking, cooking, knitting, and sewing along with other crafts. It was not truly Christmas unless someone received a sweater with the needles still attached and a short note explaining how she had simply run out of time. An entertainer through and through, Sylvia also taught piano from her home in Northville sharing her talent and love of music with many, many local children and adults and was a member of a local female barbershop chorus. She supported her late husband, Paul, in all aspects of his life, including accompanying him on nuisance wildlife calls, square dancing, family camping trips at Murphy Lake as well as across the province and catering more chicken barbeque events than any of us truly care to recall. She is survived by children, Mark (Leslie Campbell), Kentville; Sherry (Wayne) Bonderud, Calgary and Shelley Rogers (Rosanne Balsom), Cochrane, Alberta; four grandchildren, Logan Acker, Calgary; Dustin Acker (Evelyn Helie), Montreal; Devan Rogers (Ali Kearnes), Sackville; Caitlin Rogers (Stephen Mirfin), Cambridge; a granddaughter-in-law, Charlotte "Charlie" Peak, Halifax; a great grandson, Cedar Rogers, Halifax; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul (March 30, 2019); an infant son, Grant; two brothers, Neil and Arnold "Red". Visitation will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday,  April 24, 2019 in the Kentville United Baptist Church, Reverend Doctor David Bielby officiating. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation, Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses or charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville, Nova Scotia.
