Jean Elizabeth Marsh

Jean Elizabeth Marsh - age 92, of Wolfville, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Jean was born on August 8, 1926 in Woodstock ON. She was the daughter of the late Robert and A. Viola (Cronk) Marsh. Miss Marsh attended primary and secondary schools in Woodstock ON, and graduated B.A. from Western Ontario, B.Ed. from Toronto and M.A. from Columbia. After teaching high school in Merritton, ON she was appointed to the faculty of Acadia University as an Assistant Professor. She retired as a Professor from Acadia after 36 years and having served as the Head of the School of Secretarial Science. In 1953 Jean adopted the University and the Town as her family, she served on Wolfville Town Council for 26 years, many of which were as Deputy Mayor. She also served on the Kings County Amalgamated School Board, Family and Children’s Services, and Kings County Economic Development. Ever an avid reader, she also did needlework, weaving, silverwork, pottery and philately. She attended and supported both St. John’s and St. George’s Anglican Churches, teaching Sunday school and serving on various committees and organizations within the Church. Jean is survived by cousins, Marilyn (David) Scott and their son, Graham; Barbara Wickens; also by the adoptive family of George F. Forsyth (deceased), his wife Gi and their children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her younger brother, Frederick K. Marsh. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. The funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019 in the St. John’s Anglican Church, Parish of Horton, Wolfville, the Reverend Shirley Cole officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in the family plot in St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Woodstock, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s memory may be made to literary organizations such as CODE (rewriting the story for global literacy), Frontier College (a Literacy Foundation). Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
