Nicolaas "Nick" Veldhoven – age 75, of Coldbrook, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 22, 2019, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with his loving wife by his side. Born in Bilthoven, Holland, he was a son of the late Johannes H. Sr. and Johanna P. (vanKuijk) Veldhoven. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eileen (Yorke) Veldhoven; daughter, Nicole S. Veldhoven, Coldbrook; brothers, Aart (Ginny Stoddart), Coldbrook; Gerard, New Glasgow and John (Marilyn Kennedy), Centreville and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his darling daughter, Angela Michelle Veldhoven. Nick immigrated to Canada in 1954, with his parents and brothers and he attended schools in Halifax. Nick was a loving husband and dedicated father to his cherished daughters. He was known for his kind and gentle spirit and a father figure to many. Nick had a quick wit, he was technically minded, a fixer, a go-to person for electronic and auto advice and he particularly enjoyed "the car talk". He liked driving and nature and had a fondness for driving through the countryside anytime, anywhere. He was a model railroad enthusiast and enjoyed Tuesday night darts. Nick worked most of his life in sales, prior to relocating to Annapolis Valley in 1991, with his own home improvement business, Annic Enterprises, for 25 years. He will be remembered for his work and business ethics throughout his career with fencing, siding, windows, doors and superb workmanship in the homes he and Eileen remodeled and built together in Halifax and Valley areas. Nick will be forever missed by family, his extended family and friends. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Nick’s Life will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Donations in Nick’s memory can be made to the Nova Scotia Association for Community Living, Halifax, OATS, Kentville, Support Services Group, New Minas or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
