Diane Esther Budgell

Diane Esther Budgell - age 76, of Kentville, passed away peacefully with her devoted sister, Elva and Wenda, by her side, on Monday, July 1, 2019 in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Clara (Clark) Budgell. She had been a longtime employee with MT&T. She started her career with Bell, at the age of 17 in St. Catharines, Ontario. After several years, Diane returned to Nova Scotia and continued her career with the telephone company in several locations across the province. She enjoyed her job immensely, and continued her involvement by being an active Telephone Pioneer. Following retirement, she accepted a position with the Valley Regional Hospital as a switchboard operator, where she was also a member of the Auxiliary and a dedicated volunteer. Diane was an excellent pianist and loved her piano right to the end. She was a member of Red Cross, and a loyal member of St. Paul and St. Stephen United Church, Kentville, teaching Sunday School to the children whom she loved. She is survived by sisters, Elva (Wenda) Budgell, Kentville; Betty (Fred) Beaton, King City, Ontario; brother, Lorne Budgell, Magnetawan, Ontario; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brother, Elburn and nephew, Paul Beaton. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. A funeral service, followed by reception, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Sarah Scott officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Ingonish United Church Cemetery. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Dwight Klippenstein for his guidance and support during Diane’s illness. The family would also like to express sincere thanks to the special people responsible for her care – you know who you are - during her stay at Grand View Manor, the kitchen staff and those that were outstanding, not only to Diane but to her family, they were a blessing. Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
