Anna Catharina Halbersma – 89, of Kentville, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019 in the Wolfville Nursing Home. Born in Wartena, Friesland, the Netherlands, she was the eldest daughter of the late Ruurd and Tietje (Postma) Van Dellen. She married her husband, Sybren in May of 1951. In May of 1954, with two young children, they boarded the Groote Beer to cross the Atlantic on their immigration journey to Canada. Landing in Quebec, they travelled by train to Nova Scotia and first settled in Elmsdale. In the following five years, they moved to many locations in the Annapolis Valley area and finally found a permanent home in Somerset where they spent the next thirty years. During that time, she raised her family and spent many seasons in the orchards picking apples and pears, accompanied by her faithful companion "Chippy". Retirement found them on Lawrence Rd. in South Berwick and the time was spent landscaping and gardening on their property. She was a member of Covenanters ARP Church in Cambridge and enjoyed her involvement with them. Many pairs of feet were kept warm from socks that came off her knitting needles.
