Russell Gordon Barnes

Russell Gordon Barnes - age 78, of Kentville, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Sherbrooke, NS April 14, 1941, he was a son of the late Allen and Mary (Scott) Barnes of Lunenburg/Bridgewater, NS. Russell worked in construction (sheet metal) until his retirement in 1995. After moving to Kentville he enjoyed playing cribbage with friends around the area. He spent many years sailing out of Princes Inlet with Dr. Cantelope and always loved the sea. In the off season he could be found at the bowling alley or playing horseshoes with his nephew, Peter. Russell always helped to keep a beautiful yard and gardens, although we wouldn’t credit him as an avid gardener! Besides his parents, Russell was predeceased by his brothers, James (Barbara), Scott (Ellen) and Robert; sister, Doreen (Joe) Spencer. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pauline (Bezanson). Special thanks to Dr. Chris King, VON Palliative Care, doctors and staff at Valley Regional Medical B. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service, by request. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, NS, Kidney Foundation – Atlantic Division, March of Dimes of Canada, Heart and Stroke Foundation of NS, Lung Association, NS or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
