Ruth Mae Foote

1942-2024

Ruth Mae Foote

It is with fond memories in mind that the friends and family of Ruth Mae Foote announce her passing on April 20, 2024 in Valley Regional Hospital. Born on September 20, 1942 at the BFM Hospital in Kentville NS she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Mildred (Balsor) Foote. Ruth, or Ruthie as the family knew her had three brothers (Murray, Ray and Gerald) and two sisters (Olive and Carrie). She worked at United Elastic Ltd. in Bridgetown before settling into her career at Acadia University where she worked in the school bookstore for many years and then for the town of Wolfville as a crossing guard.

After the passing of her father, Ruth lived for many years with her mother tending to her needs until her passing. It wasn’t until later in her life that Ruth met her longtime companion James (Jim) at Acadia where they both worked. Together they led a very quiet and private life but were very happy together. They enjoyed hobbies together like going for drives and creating model train sets - of which they had a wonderful collection.

Ruth was predeceased by her partner Jim, both of her parents, and all of her siblings – her brother Murray tragically died as a child due to complications of diabetes. Being the last surviving member of her immediate family, Ruth (and Jim) were very lucky to have such a wonderful relationship with their neighbours, Janice and Michael. To say they had a unique relationship would be an understatement and Ruth’s family would like to express our immense gratitude for the many, many things they have helped Ruth with over her last few years as we were not able to be there for her as we would have liked to have been!

Although leading a quiet and somewhat private life, Ruthie leaves behind her niece, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who all have fond memories of things like car rides to the valley with her sisters and mom; some fun-loving teasing of her great niece that shared her same birthday "saying it’s not your birthday, it’s mine" and then she would just giggle; her love of a little junk food and Pepsi …. or just a chat on the phone with her niece Shirley. Ruth had a good and peaceful life and passed on knowing that she was loved.

As per Ruth's wishes, there will be no visitation. Burial will take place after a short graveside service with family and close friends in Hillaton Cemetery on Friday April 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gary Manthorne to officiate.

Donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to VON Annapolis Valley or the Acadia University bookstore. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. Online condolences and inquiries may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
