James Alfred "Jim" Gauthier

James Alfred "Jim" Gauthier passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2024 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, Nova Scotia, in his 97th year. Beloved husband of Evangeline Barton and stepfather to her children, Paula (Denis), Stanchel, PE; Marlene (Carman), Liverpool, NS; Cathy, New Minas, NS; Veronica (Ellison), Steam Mill, NS; Janice (Dale), Kentville, NS. He is also survived by his two children, Paul (Sandy), Picton, ON and Brenda (David), Toronto, ON; brother, Leonard (Carol), Toronto, ON; grandson, Derek (Jackie); great grandson, Chase; seven step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; step-daughter-in-law, Jeannie, Cambridge, NS; as well as many nieces and nephews in Toronto, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

In addition to his parents, John and Susan (Stewart), Jim was predeceased by his first wife, Orella (Perry); stepson, Rick; stepdaughter, Bonnie; sisters, Marie, Mary Marshall, and Catherine Roy; brothers, Francis, Vincent, Joseph and Ambrose.

Born in Charlottetown, PEI, Jim also lived in Ontario where he worked for the Toronto Board of Education. He moved back to PEI, then to Wolfville, Nova Scotia where he worked as an employee at Acadia University. He will always be remembered for his entertaining musical and social talents, plus a very robust sense of humour. He especially enjoyed selling poppies for Remembrance Day on behalf of the Royal Canadian Legion. He will be dearly missed.

We are thankful to the doctors and nursing staff of Medical A wing of the Valley Regional Hospital for their unforgettable tenderness and compassion while he was in their care. Cremation has taken place and in keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
