In Loving Memory of
Brian Francis Clyde Gunn
August 29, 1946 – August
7, 2025
Brian lived a life full of love, laughter, and service. Born in Halifax to Francis James Gunn and Teresa Bettina Howes, he was the eldest of five and helped guide his younger siblings with kindness, humour, and the occasional perfectly executed prank, like the time he helped fill a car with popcorn, a story that still makes us smile.
He was "Butch" to some, "Moose" to others, but to us, he was simply everything: Husband, Dad, Grampie, brother, and friend. His warm "Hey sweetie, how are you doing?" and signature hugs made everyone feel welcome and loved.
Brian’s passion for firefighting began young and became a career with the Canadian Air Force, taking him to bases across the country. In 1975, he married the love of his life, Stella Marie Spinney. For nearly 50 years, they danced, laughed, pulled pranks, and built a home filled with joy. Together, they raised Nigel and Aaron, with Brian passing on his patience, values, quick wit, and legendary "Dad" jokes. As a grandfather, he was playful, encouraging, and always their biggest fan—whether in the rink, on the field, or in life.
When he wasn’t serving his country, he was serving his community—whether as a Scout leader, organizing Friday night suppers at the Clementsport Legion with Stella, or solving problems for family, friends and neighbours. Brian had a gift for making people feel valued, and his friendships spanned decades.
Brian was predeceased by his parents; wife, Stella; brother, Kevin; half-siblings, Janet and Tony, and daughter-in-law Kristen. He is survived by his sons, Nigel and Aaron (Melissa); sisters, Carol Anne and Deborah (Fernando); brother, Michael (Michelle); half-siblings, Bettina (Ken) and Bill (Patty); his grandchildren, Abby, Violet, and Maxwell, many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, and his children from his first marriage, Sean and Kerri.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the VRH Medical A Team and the Palliative Care Team.
A Celebration of Brian’s life will be held at the Clementsport Legion, 2008 Highway 1, Clementsport, on Saturday, August 23, beginning at 2:00 p.m. with an informal service, followed by a reception and sharing of memories until 4:00 p.m.
Donations in Brian’s memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Cancer Patient Navigation Program or the Clementsport Legion. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
Brian’s story is one of devotion to his family, his friends, and his community. Though we will miss him more than words can say, his spirit lives on in the love, kindness, and laughter he shared so freely.
