1947-2008

Janet Cook
Janet Louise Cook - 61, Wolfville, lost her battle with cancer on Thursday, September 25, 2008 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Janet grew up in Lower Branch, Lunenburg County and graduated from New Germany High School. She attended Mount Allison University where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree, with a diploma in Secretarial Science, in 1968. After the first of four summer workshops sponsored by the Department of Education, she taught two years at Gaspereau Valley Elementary School. Then she joined the staff of Wolfville Elementary School where she taught for the next 34 years until her retirement in 2004. Janet was dedicated to the children and to teaching and could often be found back at school in the evenings making sure everything was ready for the next day. She delighted in attending events in which her former students participated. Janet also loved working in her gardens, reading mystery novels, working on her new computer and having coffee with friends at Tim Horton's. She enjoyed travelling and was so proud of the fact that even after battling back from cancer the first time was able to walk across London to ride on the “London Eye”. Just last Christmas she travelled to Florida with friends. She will be missed by her cats, Mitty and Muffer. Very special to Janet were Lynn (Rob) Urquhart, Elk Point, Alberta and their children, Samantha, Micah, Casey Janet, Ryan and Robin, who all fondly referred to her as “Auntie Jan”. Lynn is the daughter of long time friends, Charles and Marina (Lutz) Hudson. Janet is survived by cousins, Bill (Hazel) Zinck, Cambridge, Kings County; and Mary (Eric) Davidson, Grand View Manor, Berwick, and many friends. Janet was predeceased by her parents, Emerson and Lucy (Fraser) Cook, and sister, Marsha. Cremation has taken place under the direction of White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there will be no visitation by request. A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held at Wolfville Baptist Church on Sunday, October 5 at 2:30 p.m. Burial will take at a later date in the Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater.
