Mrs. Heather Higgs
1925-2009
We are saddened to announce the passing of a great lady, Heather
Alline (Burfield) Higgs, 84, who died Saturday, June 20, 2009, in the
Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on April 8, 1925 in
Solingen, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Capt. Cyril
Burfield and Irene (Wanklyn) Burfield. In 1952 she married Michael G.
Higgs of Edenbridge, Kent, at the parish church of St. Peter, Hever,
Kent. In 1957 they immigrated to Canada with their young son, Brian
and settled in Quebec, moving later to the Eastern Shore of Nova
Scotia to Port Dufferin, where they owned and operated the Marquis of
Dufferin Motel. When she retired they moved to Quoddy and then
Coldbrook in the Annapolis Valley. Surviving are her much loved
grandson, Philip, daughter-in-law, Frances and husband, Jeff
McCormick, Annapolis Royal; sister, Ann Rhys-Griffith, Bath, U.K.;
nieces and nephews and their families. Also surviving are her extended
family of many friends, neighbors and caregivers who gave her love and
support when she needed it most. In addition to her parents, Heather
was predeceased by son, Brian; husband, Michael; brother, John
Burfield, Essex, U.K. Cremation has taken place and there will be no
visitation, by request. The funeral service will held at 2:00 p.m.
Saturday, July 4, 2009 in St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, The
Reverend Archdeacon Lynn Uzans officiating. A reception will follow in
the church hall. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of
your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White
Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
