Marie Ida (nee Perry) Harvie - 86, of Kentville, passed away Tuesday,
February 23, 2010 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in
Minto, New Brunswick, raised in Summerside, P.E.I. she was a daughter
of the late John B. and Susan (Gallant) Perry. She was a veteran of
the Second World War, serving with WAC’s at Camp Aldershot. She
was a member of the Kentville Baptist Church and had been active with
the Kentville Baptist Quilters. She was made an honourary member of
the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department where she was also a member of
the Ladies Auxiliary, having over 50 years of volunteer service in
many positions. She is survived by her children, Richard Harvie (CD
Retired) (Joanne), Kingsport; Eileen Bennett (Sonny), Upper Dyke;
Grace Harvie (Richard Whalen), Kentville; grandchildren, Jane MacLean
(David), Cambridge; LCol. Richard “Rick” Harvie, CD
(Treena), NATO Headquarters, Brussels, Belgium; David Bennett (Rena),
Centreville; Cameron Harvie, Kentville; great grandchildren, Duncan
and Maegan MacLean, Zachary and Abagael Harvie, Timothy Bennett;
sisters, Nola, Winnipeg, Manitoba; Lil, Bathurst, New Brunswick;
Theresa, Summerside, Prince Edward Island; Shirley, Amherst; brothers,
Francis, Toronto; Charlie, John “Junior” and Elmer, all of
Summerside; Joe, Oromocto N.B.; several nieces and nephews. She was
predeceased by her husband, A.W. “Ting” Harvie (deceased
1980); brothers, Lawrence, James “Babe” and Henry. She
will be sadly missed by her best friend of over 50 years, Ruth Illsley
and by close family friend, Peggy VanHattem. Cremation has taken
place. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 in
the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service
followed by a reception will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 23,
2010, Reverend Doctor Judith Saunders and Reverend John McNally
officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later
date in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. Family flowers only by
request. Donations in memory may be made to the Kentville Volunteer
Fire Department or the Kentville Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements
