Kenneth Michael “Ken” Hiltz - 77, of Berwick, formerly of
Cambridge, Kings County, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 28,
2010 at home. Born in Berwick, he was a son of the late Henry and
Eileen (Madden) Hiltz. He was a graduate of Berwick High School and
received his amateur radio license in Grade 11. He worked in the
family flower business, Country Flower Shop, for a number of years
until he and his wife, Joyce acquired the business. In 1990 he
received his 40-year pin from Flowers Canada and he and Joyce attended
several flower conventions receiving awards from F.T.D. He enjoyed
spending time at their cottage at Hunt’s Lake. He was a founding
member of St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, Berwick and was a
3rd Degree Knight, holding various offices with the Knights of
Columbus, Council 5030, St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church,
Kentville. He was interested in electronics, classical music and
enjoyed square dancing. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the
former Joyce Marie Schroeder; two daughters, Bernadette (Clarence Jr.)
Pudsey, Kentville; Vernita, Cambridge; a son, Robert (Sonya Murray),
Centreville; a daughter-in-law, Doreen (Walsh) Miller, Cambridge; four
sisters, June (Thom) Davis, Sackville; Mary Summerfelt (Garth Scott)
and Helen Mosher, both of Kingston, Ontario; Debra (Angus) Doggett,
Shubenacadie; step-grandchildren, Virginia “Ginny”,
Angela, Jason, Amanda, Nadine and Melissa. He was predeceased by a
son, Michael; a brother, Frank. Cremation has taken place. Visitation
will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 with prayers to
be held at 8:00 p.m., both in the White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday,
April 1, 2010 in St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, Berwick,
Father Larry Pitcher officiating. Burial will take place in the Holy
Cross Cemetery, Kentville. Family flowers only, by request. Donations
in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of
Nurses, the Annapolis Valley Palliative Care Program or the Canadian
Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White
Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
