Mr. Laverne W. Lonergan
Laverne William Lonergan - 64, of Coldbrook, Kings County, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 15, 2010 as a result of injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident. Born in East Dalhousie, he was the son of the late Charles and Madeline (Aalders) Lonergan. He had been employed with F.W. Robinson for several years before he and his partners bought Central Auto in Cambridge. Following the sale of his business he worked for Canavan's Central Appraisal. He was a Charter member of the Coldbrook and District Lions Club, where he held various positions over 35 years and was an Honourary Life Member of the Lions Foundation of Nova Scotia. He was a recipient of the Democracy 250 Citizenship Award and was a member of the Coldbrook Recreation Commission. He enjoyed tractor pulls, John Deere, NASCAR, golf and curling. He was always on the go and received much joy in helping others. Gampie enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Olivia and especially enjoyed their special Saturday morning routine with blueberry pancakes. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, the former Linda Mahaney; a son, Kevin (Jennifer), Coldbrook; a daughter, Heather, Halifax; a granddaughter, Olivia - the pride and joy of his life; a sister, Marie (Mark) Durnford, Berwick; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Seldon. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 2010 with a Lions service to be held at 7:00 p.m. both in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service followed by a reception will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 19, 2010, Reverend Carl Price officiating. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
