Wilfred “Junior” DeBlois Strong
March 5, 1932 … September 2, 2010

Junior was born on March 5, 1932 in Waterville, Nova Scotia, the son of Wilfred and Marion Strong. He died on September 2, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pauline Strong, his son, Kim (Annie) Strong, his daughter, Susan (Bill) Mahar, his son, Rick (Sindy) Strong, and his daughter, Lisa Strong. He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley Reading, Marg Agovino, Jean Dotten, and Arlene Hamilton, as well as eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Bud and Carl, and his sister, Evelyn Anderson. Junior began his career working on the Dayliner for D.A.R., then at Cooks General Store in Waterville, and then became an optician … working for Imperial Optical and its successors until his retirement. He was a long-time member of the Kings County Commercial Travellers’ Association and a member of the Board of Dispensing Opticians for Nova Scotia. Junior enjoyed playing cards, fishing, doing puzzles, drinking coffee with his buddies at Tim Horton’s, and devouring a BBQ steak almost his size. At the time of his death, he was closing in on international records for numbers of games played of crib, 45’s, and solitaire - with winning percentages that were revered by other players as the highest recorded. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Immediately following the service, the family will be pleased to have you join them at the Travellers’ Club for a celebration of Junior’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Program, Annapolis Valley Health. Thanks go out to the Palliative Care Team at Valley Regional Hospital, with special thanks to Paulette Gash.
