Elizabeth Joyce "Betty" Best

Elizabeth Joyce "Betty" Best - 77, of Kentville, passed away Monday, October 29, 2012 in Orchard Court, Kentville. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marjorie "Jean" (Delahunt) England. She was raised and lived, all of her life, on Belcher Street in Port Williams. Her home and family were the center of her universe. During her working years she was employed in the farming industry and in later years at Lawton's in Kentville where she truly enjoyed the many people she met. Caring for her parents as they aged and two of her grandchildren, Scott and Michael, also was a big part of her life. She was very passionate about politics and for many years was a member of the Kings North PC Women's Association and supported the PC party at the local and provincial levels. She was a past member of the St. Eulalie Rebecca Lodge and she was at home in the kitchen leading many of the functions that were being catered. She is survived by a daughter, Kathie (Clinton) Swindell, Aylesford Lake; two sons, Kevin (Tracy), Port Williams; Stephen (Gay), Halls Harbour; eight grandchildren, Scott Swindell (Nicole Hartman), Michael (Jenna) Swindell, Lindsay Best (Ian Burns), Cristy (Chad) Nippard, Jenna Best (Curtis Vanbuskirk), Joey Best (Tiffany Andres), Nicholas Best (Coral Brown) and Salene Best; a great granddaughter, Carly Nippard; a brother, Andrew (Jean) England, Orillia, Ontario; a very special niece, Carolyn Walter, Kentville, who has been a big part of her life along with several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Murray; two brothers, Lawrence and Charles and a sister, Margaret (Jess). Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by family request. A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2012 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A private family interment will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
