Anna Sarah Burrell

Anna Sarah Burrell, RN - 82, of Wolfville, formerly of Kentville, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 19, 2013 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Birch Grove, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late John and Blanche (Spencer) MacRury. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Anna attended school in Birch Grove, and was in the first graduating class from Morrison High School in Glace Bay. She trained as a registered nurse at Glace Bay General Hospital, graduating in 1951. Her career began in Kentville at the Nova Scotia Sanatorium, and shortly after she met her husband Courtney. Following a brief stint at the Eastern Kings Memorial in Wolfville, she spent the majority of her career at the former Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville and retired from the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, after serving 40 years including 22 years as Nursing Supervisor. She was an active member of the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Kentville, and a former member of the Kentville Gyrettes. Anna enjoyed spending time at the family cottage at Aylesford Lake. Her passion was her family, immediate and extended. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Courtney; two daughters, Debbie (Leigh) Whalen, Lower Sackville; Sandra, Wolfville; a son, Steven, Halifax; a sister, Ethel Campbell, Sudbury, Ontario; two brothers, Aulay (Marion), Belleville, Ontario; Leslie, Hanmer, Ontario; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Daniel) Bonner, Sackville; Jayme (Devin) Meadows, Sackville; two great grandsons, Luke and Henry, and a great granddaughter, Natalie. She was predeceased by a sister, Ida; and two brothers, Archibald and Kenneth. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013 in the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Kentville (Orchard Valley United Church), Reverend Doctor Randy Crozsman officiating.
