Myfanwy Esther (Nan) Elliott

Elliott, Myfanwy Esther (Nan), age 93, beloved wife of the late Robbins Elliott, passed away peacefully on Jan. 13, 2014 in Wolfville. Born May 29, 1920 in Ottawa, she was the daughter of the late Major George F. and Annie (Munro) Millward. She attended Lisgar Collegiate and business college. She was predeceased by her first husband, Michael McGuire, who died while serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1944. During World War II, she served in the Canadian Red Cross Corps as a driver in St. Thomas, Ont. Post-war she was employed with the federal government. She married Robbins on Sept. 9, 1950, which was the date of first son Michael’s birth. She was a foster mother and served as president of the Protestant Children’s Village. Fond of bowling, curling, bridge and travel, she enjoyed 30 years of family cottage summers on the Ottawa River. Retiring to Wolfville, N.S. in 1987, she volunteered with the VON, the Flower Cart, the Wolfville Historical Society and the Kings Historical Society. Myfanwy is survived by daughters, Wendy Elliott (Steven Slipp), Wolfville; Ruth Elliott (Paul Dufresne), Aldergrove, B.C.; sons, Michael, Ottawa; Malcolm, Nelson, B.C.; and six grandchildren, Alan, Emma and George Elliott Slipp, Alex DeGrace, Jeremy and Genevieve Dufresne; sister, Una (Frank) Spiller, Ottawa; brother, Maldwyn (Barbara) of St. Norbert, Manitoba, and several nieces and nephews. A gathering in her memory will take place Sunday, Jan. 19 from 1-3 p.m. at 39 Kent Ave. in Wolfville. The family extends gratitude to all of her dedicated caregivers over the last 10 years while she struggled with Alzheimer’s. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on May 29 at Wolfville Baptist Church. Donations in memory may be made to the VON Adult Day Program or the Annapolis Valley Hospice Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
