James "Robin" Marshall

James "Robin" Marshall - 67, of Coldbrook, Kings County, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Robin loved God, he loved people and he loved life. Born in Montreal, he was a son of the late James Lawrence and Sidonie Edith (Robins) Marshall. In the late 1960's through the early 1970's, he had been employed with Ralston Purina in Quebec and Nova Scotia. He received a BSc in Agriculture from MacDonald College, a Certificate in Senior Business Management from McGill University and studied for one year of his MBA at the University of Western Ontario, returning to Nova Scotia in 1976. He was employed with Wade Enterprises from 1976-1987. He then received his Masters in Economic Development from the University of Waterloo. From 1987-1990, he was self-employed as a Business Consultant with Stewart Resources Inc. and later worked for the Economic Development Department for the Municipality of the County of Kings, retiring in 2005. In his retirement, Robin was overseeing the Coldbrook Community Parks, was the treasurer for the Coldbrook Community Association, volunteered with Inn From The Cold and was the Chair and Treasurer of Open Arms from 2004-2013. He was a member of New Covenant Community Church, Cambridge, where he served as an Elder. He was a sports enthusiast, especially football, skiing, hockey and later, golf. He also enjoyed gardening and horses. Robin had a passion for boating and sailed out of Mahone Bay on his boat "Amazing Grace". He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Katherine "Kathy" (Wade); a sister, Susan (Shawn) Moore, Waverley; a brother, Brian (Janet) Marshall, Toronto and Florida; many nieces and nephews; many foster children, their families and extended family members. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014 in New Covenant Community Church, 6424 Highway 1, Cambridge, Kings County, Reverend Bill Hogeboom officiating. A reception will follow in The Big House on Hobby Horse Farm, Spittal Road, Coldbrook. Burial will take place at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to Open Arms (www.openarms.ca). Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
