Garnet Frederick Parker – of Kentville, NS, passed away peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary of the QEII Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, March 22, 2014, in his 71st year, with his wife by his side, after a courageous battle with ALS. Predeceased by his loving first wife, Lorraine Lucille (Forsythe); beloved daughter, Deanna Lorraine; brother, Peter Neville and father, Frederick Neville Parker. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Dianne Carol (Lightfoot); dedicated mother, Vilda Irene (Roscoe; son, Craig Garnet and daughter-in-law, Darlene (Ciuffetelli); grandson, Max Christian; granddaughter, Madeline Crista; brother, Richard Roscoe; niece, Gillian Rosemary and Shawn, Brayden and Benjamin Williams; nephew, Geoffrey Richard and Halle and by his wife’s family, Carol Lee Giffin and Scott Kyle, Robert and Dawn Giffin, Greg Giffin and Yvonne Chabassol and Jenna, Reid, Riley, Callie, Grace, Cameron, Zachary, Benjamin, and Sophia. Garnet worked for the Canada Employment and Immigration Centre in Amherst, NS, retiring thereafter to the Annapolis Valley. He was a dedicated volunteer of the Amherst Kinsmen and a passionate coach within the Amherst Minor Hockey Association. Garnet’s love for Hall’s Harbour, evident in his tireless volunteer work for the Hall’s Harbour Port Authority, helped secure funding and completion of a new, re-engineered wharf that continues to serve this beautiful fishing harbour today. Never to give in or give way to life’s obstacles, Garnet was a testament of human strength, perseverance, and commitment in all he lived and in those he loved. He will be dearly missed. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. Friends are invited to attend a celebration of life that will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the White Family Funeral Home, 100 Cornwallis Street, Kentville, NS. A reception will follow. Memorial donations to the ALS Society of Nova Scotia, the Halifax Infirmary 3IMCUnit of the QEII Health Sciences Centre, or the Hall’s Harbour Fundy View Community Society would be greatly appreciated. By request, family flowers only.
