Donald J. Hewey

Donald J. Hewey died peacefully at home in New Minas on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the age of 87. Born in Beaver River, Digby County on April 25, 1926, he was the son of the late Lillian (Campbell) Hewey and Willard Hewey of Lake Annis, NS. He was a graduate of Acadia University, where he played varsity tennis and was chairman of the social committee. He also served in both the Canadian Army and the Canadian Air Force. Don lived in Dartmouth and had a career of over thirty years as a pharmaceutical sales representative with the A.M. Robins Company, retiring in 1988 as the district manager for the Atlantic Provinces and moving to the Valley soon afterward. In addition to his great sense of humor, it would be an understatement to say he had a never-ending love of the game of golf, which he enjoyed playing as a member of the KenWo Golf Club for many years. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth (Mann) Hewey; son, Darrell (Paula), Dartmouth; daughters, Susan (Stephen) Salsman, Woodville and Janet (Richard) Knox, Virginia; sister, Gwen Hewey-Parsons, Yarmouth Co.; brother-in-law, David Mann, Halifax; sister-in-law, Norma Mann, St. Stephen, NB; five grandchildren, Daniel, Scott, Rebecca, Matthew and Emma; three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Cynthia and his infant grandson, Andrew. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request of the family. Family flowers only, please. A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Sterling Gosman officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in the Willow Bank Cemetery, Wolfville. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Palliative Care Unit at Valley Regional Hospital or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
