Alice "Elaine" Sanford

SANFORD Alice "Elaine", New Minas, N.S., formerly of Canning and Sheffield Mills, passed away April 15, 2014 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Sheffield Mills, she was a daughter of the late Alexis and Mina (Lockhart) Irving, and the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a graduate of Kings County Academy; a member and choir member of the former Trinity United Church; adherent of Canning Baptist Church; member of Cornwallis District New Horizons Senior Citizens; and had been a 54-year member of the Rebekah Order, having held offices of Past Noble Grand; Past District Deputy President and the recipient of a 50-year jewel. She had been employed for several years as Secretary at the former Maple Leaf Fruit Co­operative in Canning. She was an avid reader; lover of music and a firm believer that humor was an essential part of life, having contributed her share. She enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage. Over the years she enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage at Baxters Harbour. Surviving are daughters, Linda (Raymond) Gibson, Toronto, Ontario; Maureen (Wayne) Coffill, Kentville, N.S.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Helen Lawrence, Beulah Wood, Clara Ballantine. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice (Bud); son, Wayne (Linda) Mount Denson; infant son at birth; brothers, Russell, Charles and Allister Irving; sister, Violet Caldwell. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the caring staff of Evergreen Nursing Home for the wonderful care she received. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A graveside service for family will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014 in the Habitant Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
