Albert "Harris" Butler

Albert "Harris" Butler - 84, of New Minas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Evergreen Home For Special Care, with his family by his side. Born in South Alton, Kings County, he was a son of the late Leslie and Mary Ellen (Arenburg) Butler. Harris was a hard worker, working from the time he was 14 until he was 64 when a heart attack slowed him down.  He loved the outdoors and worked many years in the lumber woods and on different farms throughout the valley. Harris enjoyed dancing, a good game of 45's or crib and he especially enjoyed camping and sitting around the campfire with a good glass of wine. He was a foster parent to 47 children over 31 years. Harris loved his dog, Misty, who gave him many hours of companionship, especially during his illness. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lucille (Broome) Butler; daughters, Nancy Sanford, Cambridge; Cathy (James) Hirtle, Hantsport; Barb (Dale) Melvin, Sheffield Mills; Julie (Jeff) Best, Centreville; Debbie (Budd) Hancock, Black River; Lee Ann Lowe, Dartmouth; sons, Kevin (Ethel), Auburn; Allison Banks, Canning; one brother and two sisters; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Shauna Butler; six brothers and three sisters. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Sandra Fyfe and Reverend Nicole Uzans officiating. Burial will take place in the Habitant Cemetery, Habitant. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Evergreen Home for their care, kindness and compassion. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
