Sybil Blanche Morse

Sybil Blanche Morse, 92, formerly of Grand Pre´, Kings County and Oakland, Lunenburg County, passed away Friday, June 27, 2014 in Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Charles Gordon and Winona (O’Brien) Douglass.

 

Educated in Moncton and Saint John, she attended Robinson Business School and upon graduation worked in the dispatch office for TCA (Trans Canada Airlines) at the Moncton airport and later in the Moncton CNR office.

 

As a young woman she enjoyed cross-country skiing, speed skating and was a student of oil painting with Professor Sarah Hart of Mount Allison University.  In 1941 she studied piano and organ with Professor Phyllis McLennan and Dean Edwin Collins at Acadia University. It was here that she met Norman Morse and they were married in 1945.

 

Busy raising five children, Sybil continued to follow her interests in art and music and instilled an appreciation for these talents in her family.  An avid knitter, she also enjoyed doing needlework and paintings of birds and flowers. She shared her husband’s interest in raising German Shepherds and attending obedience trials.

 

Sybil is survived by daughters, Ruth Anne (David) Nicholson, Martins Point; Margaret Ellen Morse (John Zirbel), Montreal; sons, Douglass "Doug" (Cora Mae) Morse, Grand Pre´; Robert "Bob" (Christine) Morse, Mahone Bay; grandchildren, Erika Nicholson (David Maginley), Halifax; Anna Zirbel, Montreal; Katherine Zirbel, Edmonton; Peter (Molly) Morse, Ottawa; Jonathan (Sona) Morse, Toronto; Andrew Morse, Grande Prairie, Benjamin Morse and Jenny Morse, Mahone Bay; great grandchildren, Emma Nicholson Krupp; Chloë and Seth Morse; Rowan Morse; Anderson Morse; sister, Kathleen "Kay" Ruddick, Hampton, New Brunswick; brother-in-law, Arthur (Claire) Morse, Montreal; sister-in-law, Alice Miner, Tarpon Springs, Florida; nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Norman Harding Morse (2007); son, Brian Gordon Longley Morse (1975); brothers-in law, Stuart Ruddick and Clarence Miner.

 

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Parkland Estates, Halifax and special thanks to her excellent caregivers at Rosedale Home for Special Care, Sybil’s home for the past year and a half.

 

There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Stephen Kristenson officiating, assisted by Reverend David Maginley. A private family burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown, Annapolis County.

 

Donations in memory may be made to Rosedale Home for Special Care, MICA (Mahone Islands Conservation Association) or the Valley Regional Hospital – Carey Me Fund.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
