B. Alpharetta Shaw

B. Alpharetta Shaw - 85, of New Minas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Sandy Cove, Digby County, she was a daughter of the late Marven and Ida (MacKay) Griffiths. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and travelling in Canada and the USA in her younger years. She was a trained bookkeeper and had been employed together with her husband at Don’s Fish Market in New Minas. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara (Dennis) Houghton, Aylesford; one son, Steven (Karen) Shaw, Port Williams; four grandchildren, Craig Shaw (Rebecca), Berwick; Kara (Dale Weir), New Minas; Kelly Lambert, Kentville; Dawne Ells (Jeremy Spinney), Cambridge; six great grandchildren, Olivia, Hannah and Sophie, Benjamin, Noah and Lexie; two sisters, Gwen Legare, Digby; Pauline (Gerald) Marshall, Smith’s Cove, Digby County; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Shaw; a sister, Dorothy Marshall. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Lewis H. How officiating. A private family burial will be held in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Special thanks to Dr. MacMillan, Dr. Ross and Dr. Woo.
