Joyce Millicent Deal

Joyce Millicent Deal - 95, of Kentville, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Hall's Harbour, she was a daughter of the late Delancy and Charlotte (Carson) Huntley. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and mother-in-law and will be sadly missed by all. Joyce was a very thoughtful person and willing to lend a hand to those in need. She knitted and sewed clothes, not only for her family but also many neighborhood children. She was an avid piano player and a very good cook. Her breads and pies were unbeatable and she won many awards for her baking skills. In her early life, together with her husband, Norman, they ran the family farm in Canaan, Kings County. They later moved to Kentville, where they operated a canteen. She also worked at the Cornwallis Inn and Wade's Grocery Store. She spent the past 20 years in Evergreen Home for Special Care, where she learned to play many games and won many ribbons. She is survived by one son, Donald (Halina), Canaan; five sisters, Gertrude, Linda, Sheila, Constance and Fern; two brothers, Donald, Toronto and Phillip, Greenwich; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; two daughters-in-law, Rita and Audrey Deal; a son-in-law, John Helm. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Norman; two daughters, Joan and Carolyn; three sons, Wayne, Norman Scott and John; four sisters, Mary, Sara, Sharon and Minnie; two brothers, Carleton and Fletcher; and a granddaughter, Jacqueline. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Cathy Pharo and Reverend Mary Anne Doherty Fleet officiating. Interment will take place in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. Donations in memory may be made to Evergreen Home for Special Care. The family wishes to thank the staff of Evergreen Home for Special Care for the excellent care provided to Joyce. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
