Marguerite Elizabeth Burgess

Marguerite Elizabeth Burgess - 81, of Coldbrook, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at home. Born in Steeves Settlement, New Brunswick, she was the eldest daughter of the late Clarence and Hilda (King) Lounsbury. After graduating from Petitcodiac High School, she worked for T. Eaton Co. until 1950 when she married her best friend and the love of her life, Richard. She moved about with Richard during his military service and while living in Winnipeg, attended business college where she studied accounting and worked in account collections at the Manitoba Clinic. Following Richard's retirement, they owned and operated the Barrier Bay Lodge and Major Service Centre in the Whiteshell Provincial Park, Manitoba. In 1982 they came home to the Maritimes and built their home in Coldbrook, Nova Scotia. She then worked on various farms, retiring in 1983. Over the years, she had a number of interests, including playing softball, bowling, and shuffleboard in Florida. Her personal passions were knitting, cross stitch and crossword puzzles. Marguerite and her late husband, Richard spent their twilight years travelling and visiting family and friends. She loved her family dearly and was a devoted wife and mother through 64 years of marriage. She is survived by three daughters, Lorraine (Francis) Kelly, Nine Mile River; Sharon (Jack Moore) Spinney, New Brunswick; Betty Ann Porterfield, Cole Harbour; a son, Bill (Dorothy) Burgess, Winnipeg; three sisters, Alta (Joe) Harrison, Erma (Harvey) Allain and Barbara (Gilbert) Rawline; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Marion Mae (in infancy); two sons-in-law, Bruce Syntak and James Spinney; a brother-in-law, Fraser Harrison.  Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2014 in Kingsway Pentecostal Assembly, Kentville, Reverend Terry Penney officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2014, in Maplewood Cemetery, Petitcodiac, New Brunswick. Following the interment, a reception will be held at the home of Diana and Gary McKnight - 389 Mannhurst Road, Mannhurst, New Brunswick. Donations in memory may be made to the Kingsway Pentecostal Assembly or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
