Eileen Charlotte Godlien Eileen Charlotte Godlien

Eileen Charlotte Godlien - Age 73, of Wolfville, passed away in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on Monday, August 4, 2014 and will forever be remembered as a loving, selfless and cherished wife, mother, sister, teacher and friend. Born in Halifax, Eileen attended St. Patrick’s High School and later earned two degrees at Mount Saint Vincent University. After university, she spent several years in the convent as Sister Ann Michelle. While she left the convent, she remained quietly and privately devoted the remainder of her life. She started her teaching career in Halifax and the Annapolis Valley at West Kings District High School. Shortly after, she moved out west to teach while her husband, Laverne, earned his education degree from the University of Calgary. Both moved back to Nova Scotia and lived for many years in North Kingston where she had long careers at Kingston and District Elementary School and St. Mary’s Elementary School. In retirement, she enjoyed travelling, cruising and spending a few of the cold winter months in Florida. She loved to read, and gardening was a passion as shown by her lovely gardens. She enjoyed her iPad and computer and was always eager to keep learning and growing, writing down detailed instructions in her notebook when learning new things so she could do it herself next time. She was fiercely independent and was always a doer. Her favorite sayings were "don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today" and "any job worth doing is worth doing well." She loved her family with her whole heart and soul, loved the family dogs Izzie and Bean, and always put others before herself. So many people have blossomed because of her love, support and attention. Her family is taking great comfort that she enjoyed her last days and passed away knowing she was truly loved. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Laverne "Vern"; daughter, Lynne in Wolfville; son, Darrell (Ellen) in Waterloo, Ontario; sisters, Joan Bourgeois (Robert) in Halifax; Elizabeth Vagg (Harold) in Georgetown, Ontario; Patricia Smith (Bernie) in Gold River; and Shirley Doucette (Adrian) in Tignish, PEI; brothers, Wayne Peters (Anne) and Greg Peters (Joan), both in Halifax. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Daniel Peters, Halifax; and her sister, Lorraine Carroll, Halifax. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 9, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the White Family Funeral Home in Kentville with a reception to take place on site following the service. The family is requesting any donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation Canada in lieu of flowers.
