Harold Douglas  Young

Harold Douglas Young - 76, of New Minas, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side and surrounded by family on Saturday, August 9, 2014. He was a special man gone too soon. Born on October 22, 1937 in Liverpool, Harold was a son of the late Howard and Bessy (Sanderson) Young of Wolfville. He lived most of his life in Kentville before moving to New Minas in 1978. Harold was well known in the Annapolis Valley for Young’s Lunch in Kentville throughout the 1970’s and his renowned fish and chips! With a twinkle in his eye along with his laughter, he brought many smiles to many faces. Harold started working at the Nova Scotia Sanatorium where he met his wife, Georgina, and they were inseparable for 57 years. After leaving the Sanatorium, he worked as a Supervisor with Formax and then on to Young’s Lunch. For seven years, he created food masterpieces which he continued throughout his days. Semi-retiring at a young age, he drove a school bus for many years until completely retiring to enjoy his home and cottage at Aylesford Lake. He was a man of many projects. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Georgina (Nicholson); three daughters, Brenda (Chris Murphy), JoAnne (Kim Reid) and Jennifer (Robbie Graham), six grandchildren, one great grandchild and one sister, Doris (John Gaudet). Harold was predeceased by his brother, Edgar Young and a sister, Jean Cruickshank. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Harold's life and reception will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Elizabeth Johnson officiating. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Rayson and his staff for all the care over the last 4 years, Dr. Fleckenstein, Dr. Burgess and the VON for their care, kindness and compassion. Donations in memory may be made to the Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.
