Gordon William Vincent Delaney

Gordon William Vincent Delaney - 82, of Coldbrook, Kings County, died peacefully at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on Monday, September 29, 2014, surrounded by his closest family. Born in Halifax on April 14, 1932, he was the son of the late Gerald and Mary (Corbett) Delaney. He joined the RCAF in 1951 and served two tours at 2 (F) Wing, Grostenquin, France and several postings throughout Canada. One of the highlights of his career was being the honor guard for the then Princess Elizabeth in St. John's, NL, shortly before her accession to the throne. He proudly served as a military policeman, taking many courses with various agencies, including the RCMP, as a special investigator. After retiring from the Canadian Air Force, he attended Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Bible Hill campus, then worked at Canex, CFB Greenwood for 10 years and Wades grocery store for nine years. Gordon was a loving husband, devoted to Jean. The two were inseparable and their love ever-present. He was a kind, gentle and doting dad to his four children and his six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He always treated people with respect and dignity. He was an amazing man who never complained and was cheerful, witty and funny to the very end. He taught his children love, compassion and integrity. Gordon was a thoughtful and caring man who believed all life was precious. His love of animals was apparent in everything he did. He will be greatly missed by his two cats, Mia and Mikey. His kind and gentle soul always shone through. Quiet and unassuming, his children often described him as their hero and inspiration. Gordon is survived by his wife, Jean (Burton); daughters, Deborah (Richard) Ackland, Aylesford; Dawn Delaney (Jerry), Coldbrook; Gordon (Georgina) Delaney, Centreville and Stephen Delaney, Moncton; six grandchildren, Sacha, Romney, Evan, John, Kristy and Ali, along with his great grandchildren, Poppy, Pheida, Eli, Blake and Norah. He is also survived by his sister, Rita Miller, Halifax. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth in infancy; sisters, Mary, Francis and Lillian; brothers, Gerald, Victor and James. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There will be no visitation or funeral service as per Gordon's wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gordon's name to the Kings County SPCA. Special thanks to the staff of the Valley Regional Hospital Emergency Department for the kindness, care and compassion shown to Gordon in his final days. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
