Oscar MacRitchie "Mac" Giffin - 93, of Starr's Point, Kings County, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 in the DVA Unit of Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Goldboro, Guysborough County, he was a son of the late Oscar and Pearl (MacIntosh) Giffin. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in the Italian and Holland Campaigns. A proud Cape Breton Highlander, he was a long-time member of the Kentville business community and was a 50-year member of the Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club, New Minas. He is survived by his wife, Alma (Bagnell) (Proudfoot) Giffin; a daughter, Susan (Hugh) MacDougall, Halifax; a step-daughter, Gail (Mahagie Madden), Arichat; two step-sons, Rhuland Proudfoot, Halifax; Scott Proudfoot (Sheila Rose), Ottawa; three granddaughters, Sarah MacDougall, Alice Gruber and Shauna Tourneur; two grandsons, Rhuland J. S. Proudfoot and Terence Cash; a great granddaughter, Renee; special nieces, Violet Sinclair and Beverley Saulnier; many other nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley Samueison; five sisters, Anna, Edna, Marjorie, Helen and Isabell; a brother, Irving. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 9, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Annika Sangster officiating. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, the Flower Cart, New Minas or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
