Thelma Doherty

Thelma J. Doherty - 97, of Wolfville Nursing Home, formerly of Black Rock, Kings County, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2014. Born in Pleasant River, Queens County, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Edith (Oliver) Franke. She and her late husband, Joe had lived together in Black Rock until his passing in 2002. She then moved to Fundy Villa, Berwick and later to Wolfville. She was a long-time member of the Black Rock Baptist Church, where she served as janitor for many years. She is survived by three daughters, Gloria Yorke (the late, Elmer Walsh), New Minas; Sylvia (Art) Hamilton, Kentville; Juanita Doherty (Allen Deveau), Wilmot; six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Floyd Doherty; sister, Zella Walker; half sister, Mae Collicut; brothers, Munson and Oliver; a son-in-law, Gerald Yorke. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014 in the Black Rock Baptist Church, Reverend Doctor Judith Saunders officiating. Burial will take place in the East Black Rock Cemetery. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Black Rock Baptist Church or the Lodge That Gives.
