Teunis Joost "Teun" Noordermeer

Teunis Joost "Teun" Noordermeer- 89, of Centreville, Kings County, formerly of Kingston, passed away Friday, November 7, 2014 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Zwijndrecht, Holland he was a son of the late Joost and Aartje (Buitendyk) Noordermeer. In earlier years his military career took him to Indonesia where he worked in Communications as a Radio Operator. It was here that he was afforded the opportunity to travel the islands as well as playing flute in military bands. An exceptionally talented lifelong musician, Teunis was a professional flute player having been involved with the Royal Canadian Artillery Band and the Central Band for many years, the CBC Orchestra, the Harmony Harbour program and many other musical performances. His love of music continued through his career as both a high school and private music teacher, choir director of the Kingston Baptist Church and with the formation of his own musical instrument repair business. As well as music, Teunis had many passions and hobbies including woodworking, photography and short wave radio. He is survived by his wife JoAnn (Holleman) Noordermeer; daughters, Dina (Scott) Dickson, Lawrencetown, Halifax County and Dorothy (Jason) Hall, Windsor; sisters Jopie, Aartje, and Thea; brothers Ary, Cor and Ben, grandchildren Adrian and Taylor; step children Audrey, Vivian and Derek. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Corrie (Spaans) Noordermeer; a son Edward; a sister Jenny; a brother Piet and a grandson Aaron. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Reverend Thelma McLeod officiating. A reception will follow. Burial will take place in the North Kingston Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to Gospel For Asia or a charity of choice.
