Rose Marie Houghton
Rose Marie Houghton - 71, of Sheffield Mills, Kings County. The family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear mother, wife and grandmother at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on Sunday, November 16, 2014. Born in Saulnierville, Digby County, she was the daughter of the late Amos and May (Gaudet) Blinn. After completing school in Saulnierville, she came to the Nova Scotia Sanatorium in Kentville to train for a career in the nursing profession. She worked on the nursing staff at the Sanatorium, the Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital and the Valley Regional Hospital from where she retired after over 30 years of service. Rose was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who loved her family dearly. She enjoyed having company and Sunday night supper with family. When she was well and able to travel, she enjoyed camping and trips to the French Shore to visit family. She also enjoyed knitting and craft work. She will be forever loved and remembered by her husband of 50 years, Laurie; her sons, Bruce (Dianne), Windsor and Steven (Ann), Sheffield Mills; grandchildren, Marley, Miranda, Brandon and Ryan, who were her pride and joy; a sister, Dorothy Blinn, Windsor; brothers, Ivan (Brenda) Blinn and Richard (Bernadette) Blinn, both of Saulnierville; sisters-in-law, Louise Blinn, Church Point and Frances Blinn, Falmouth; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Helen Blinn and Marie Stuart; brothers, Nelson and Donald Blinn; infant brother, Melvin. Cremation has taken place.
