John William Phillips

John William Phillips - 88, of Canning, Kings County, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with his family by his side. Born in Canning, he was a son of the late Everett and Sarah Phillips. He was a 35 year veteran of the Canning Volunteer Fire Department. In his working years, he had been employed with Sarsfield Brothers, Ells Brothers and retired from Irving Oil Limited. After retiring, he enjoyed fishing and took great pride in planting and caring for his vegetable garden. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Marie Fraser; a daughter, Ann (Brian) Cochran, Halifax; a son, Craig (Vanessa) Phillips, Dartmouth; a grandson, Mitchell Cochran, Toronto. He was predeceased by three brothers, Fred, Milford and Charles. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 27, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Burial will take place in the Jaw Bone Corner Cemetery, Canard, Kings County. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses Palliative Care Team or the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
