Brian Clark Thorne

1948-2014

Brian Clark Thorne

It is with deep sadness that the family of Brian Clark Thorne, 66, of Coldbrook, Nova Scotia announce his sudden passing on December 15, 2014 at the Halifax Infirmary from a pulmonary embolism. Brian was born in Bath, New Brunswick to the late Douglas Waugh and Doreen Marguerite (Clarke) Thorne. He attended school in Florenceville and Fredericton, and at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College before joining the RCMP in 1969. His first post was Bridgetown, Nova Scotia where he met and married his beloved wife of 42 years, Elaine (Spicer) Thorne. Brian and Elaine enjoyed posts in Digby and Yarmouth where their daughters were born before settling in the Annapolis Valley. After retiring from the RCMP in 1992, he became a deputy sheriff for the Nova Scotia Department of Justice until his retirement from that position in 2008. After retirement Brian was able to spend his time doing what he loved – playing hockey and golf, hunting at Donkey Lodge, attending Acadia hockey games, shining his little red car, cultivating a perfectly mowed lawn and laughing with his many friends. He always had a sparkle in his eye and wry observation to share. No matter where they went across the countryside, if she lost sight of him Elaine would find him off chatting to someone he knew.  One of his famous lines was "Who was his father?"  He could always make a connection. His best times were spent with his wife and daughters. He taught the Thorne girls the value of hard work, attention to detail and how to find humor in almost every situation. He loved kids and they loved him. His Donald Duck voice was legendary. He was endlessly delighted by the shenanigans of his wingers on the West Coast and so proud of the fine young man his oldest grandson is becoming. Pard was much loved and he will be terribly missed. He is survived by his wife Elaine, daughters Lisa (Jim Purdy), Kimberly (Shawn Cook) of Kentville and Tracey (Bill Boyte) of Gabriola Island BC., grandsons Spencer, Linden and Daniel, brothers David (Sue) of Stittsville, Ont and Gary (Karen) of Ilderton, Ont, father in law Paul Spicer of Bridgetown and many loved nephews and nieces on both the Spicer and Thorne sides of the family. He was predeceased by his parents and his mother in law, Phyllis (Bayliss) Spicer. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Nova Scotia where a visitation will be held on Friday December 19th, 2014 from 6-8pm and where a funeral service in Brian’s memory, followed by a reception, will be held on Saturday December 20th, 2014 at 2pm. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
