Donald LeRoy Young

Donald LeRoy Young - 83, of Kentville, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, following a brief illness. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Clarence and Erema (Schofield) Young. He graduated from Kings County Academy, where he was a member of the Kentville Cadet Corps and attended the summer camp in Lake Louise, Alberta. He then became employed with the Dominion Atlantic Railway for a number of years and later spent 35 years with Canada Manpower, Kentville. He had been an active member of Hiawatha Lodge, I.O.O.F., Kentville. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with trips to Newfoundland. He was also a member of the Glooscap Curling Club. A skilled carpenter, he and his father cleared land and built two cottages, one in Leville (New Ross) and one in Baxter's Harbour, where he also had a productive vegetable garden. He is survived by his wife, the former E. Joyce Bresnan; a brother, Clarence (Gail), Windsor; three sisters, Doreen (Raymond) Cavanagh, Centreville; Shirley Kohler, Kentville and Carolyn (Hughie) Redden, South Alton; a half-sister, Dolores Northrup, Longview, Texas; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
